Neo-Nirvana

Uday Ray

May Buddha go back to his Bodhi-Satya tree,
Sit on a mound under the shadow and meditate for long hours,
As he must once again achieve the state of neo-nirvana

Follower Ashok and his ambassadors of love
Finished their relay race of peace, many centuries ago,
From the lost world of Bimbiswar to Jakarta

But nothing changed much, may be nothing changes at all,
Ask Martha the mother of hungry mouths or
Malati who sells her body for a bowl of rice

May Gautam listen to the buzz of cyber grapevine,
The thriving new conscience of a suffering race,
Concoction of laugh and Cry,
Ludicrous cat calls for sex and money
Exhausted, panting but still breathing

Let the night’s twilight again call the Jatak out,
Lanterns of human homes located on every corners of this
Ruined planet must s! end him a signal of SOS

May Siddharta again give up his right to the crown
And begin the legendary sojourn through the slums of Calcutta
Up through the ghettos of Harlem, New York

And he must garner the courage to desert the bed of his
Intoxicating queen and heavenly sleeping angels,
And once again must touch the souls of millions

And must change it all, once for all!
